Meanwhile, Kinemon’s party arrives at Tokage Port and finds it in ruins with his allies who have nowhere to find him and cannot be challenged. Desperate, they curse their fate and plan to let the small group go alone, wondering what could have happened the night before. Two days before the festival, as Kinemon gathered his allies, Orochi had planned his own plans, sending men to destroy several bridges connecting the Wa regions and the Thousand Sunny hideout, severing the Scabbard Alliance. Meanwhile, Holdem learns of the recent alliance farm robbery and blames the residents of Okobore Town and burns the town down. Refusing to wait for another chance, despite Momonosuke’s argument, the Sheaths decide to follow their plan, knowing that any delay would kill more people. Momonosuke then asks them what he’s supposed to do without them, and they tell him how his father started out on his own as well, before finding and inspiring the scabbards to become a samurai.
Kozuki Oden 41 years ago, in an energetic and flourishing Wa Land, former shogun Kozuki Sukiyaki prepares to give up his 18-year-old son Kozuki Oden because of his outrageous actions he committed during his life. Oden, who has returned from one of his failed attempts to get to sea, anger some citizens when he cooks a pot of oden over a man’s remains.
A young Kinemon steals a precious boar from a gang and flees to the Flower Capital. Denjiro, however, told him that his parents’ wrath, known as the God of the Mountain, would await those who did not return him. Just as the mountain god attacked the capital, Oden overheard their conversation and asked them to give him the boar. The mountain god then attacked the capital and Kinemon attempted to attack the god in vain, after finding out that he was eaten. Oden then approached the mountain god with his offspring and cut him in half with his Nitoryu.
Since he owned the white boar, he took responsibility for it. He then received a message from his father Sukiyaki, informing him that he had been disowned and exiled from the capital. When Oden happily left, Kinemon and Denjiro became his supporters. The trio traveled to Hakumai to meet the daimyo Shimotsuki Yasuie, who introduced them to his new servant Orochi.
Later that year, Oden discovered that the Whitebeard Pirates had stranded on Wa. He ran towards them and confronted Whitebeard, intending to join his crew. Whitebeard, however, refused to let Oden join his crew, due to his concern about his character. However, when he attempted to quietly set sail at night, Oden and Izo pulled over as they climbed a chain.
Whitebeard agreed to let Oden join his crew if he could ride the chain for three days, but Oden, with only ten minutes remaining, ended up walking away. He then stranded on an island, scaring off a gang of human traffickers who had attempted to kidnap a woman named Amatsuki Toki with the promise of taking her to Wan Land. After treating her wounds, Oden protected her when the traffickers returned with their leader Karma. However, Whitebeard came and knocked Karma out when he offered Oden to join his crew, as he was impressed with Oden’s willingness to protect Toki.
Oden, Toki, Izo and the stowaways Inuarashi and Nekomamushi then sailed and ventured with the Whitebeard Pirates and one day Toki revealed that she was a time traveler born 800 years ago. Meanwhile, Gol D. Roger read the news of Oden joining Whitebeard’s crew and expressed his desire to meet him.
While they sailed with the Whitebeard Pirates for four years and learned more about the world, Oden and Toki fell in love and Toki later gave birth to Momonosuke and Hiyori. However, several years ago in Wan Country, Orochi met an old woman who could change her appearance thanks to the Mane Mane no Mi. She explained to him how the Kurozumi family came close to seizing power before they fell and proposed to him to help him take the title of shogun. Orochi had amassed wealth by stealing and borrowing from Oden and Yasuie, and the old woman pretended to be Oden to find him a job in the shogun’s castle by lying that he and Orochi were like brothers. As Sukiyaki began to suffer, the old woman pretended to be him and she decreed that Orochi would become the shogun’s temporary successor until Oden returned.
Meanwhile, the Whitebeard Pirates made their way to an island where a ruckus was going on. This ruckus was due to Roger’s Pirates and Roger was eager to fight Whitebeard on his last trip. The Whitebeard Pirates are then discovered by the Roger Pirates and an outgoing Oden rushes in and attacks several Roger Pirates before being attacked by Roger himself. Roger and Whitebeard both prefer to face each other, imbuing their blades with Haki, then collide with an explosion of Haki, shaking all around and even the island, without the blades touching.
The Whitebeard Pirates and Roger Pirates face off for three days and three nights. On the fourth day, however, they end their battle and share the loot equally between the two crews. Roger then told Whitebeard his dream of becoming the Pirate King and traveling the world, asking the latter that he would have to borrow Oden for a year and gave all his treasure to the Whitebeard Pirates. Roger’s Pirates later reach Skypiea, and Oden writes Roger’s message next to Shandora’s poneglyph.
